So the job search has started. Like many other Americans I find myself out of a job at a moment when the economy is just beginning to see the light of another day. Unemployment is rising, and I am adding to those statistics. My parting with my former Employer was not the best in the world. It is amazing that one can pour their heart ad sole into something for a year and a half, and then loose it all over a simple misunderstanding. This does speak to fostering good relations with the people you work with. When someone in that equation changes then there is no possibility of rational reasoning. Enough about that, it is in the past, it is time to more forward.
How does one look for a job in the modern economy. It seems that there are two different camps on this question. The first one will tell you to go out and check all of the job boards on the Internet. Careerbuilder.com, Monster.com, Indeed.com, and the lists goes on and on. The idea here is akin to that of the shot gun, if you put enough resumes onto a target it is possible that one of them is going to stick. The problem here is that so many people are taking this approach that it is impossible for the target to pick a resume out of the hail. This brings us to the second camp. This group of people would have you contact anyone and everyone that you have ever had contact with, not asking for a job, but looking for information on their company. The advantage here is that you make more contacts, and through these you may be able to find a lead on a position. The issues is that it is not exactly to the point. You can bounce back and forth for months talking to different people in different positions, but if you are not identifying the fact that you need a position then this is going to get old very very fast.
More on this tipic to come.
